This course is perfect for those who’ve completed a beginner class or have basic throwing experience. Over six focused sessions, you’ll refine core techniques and push your creativity to new heights, all within a supportive, hands-on environment.

With small class sizes (up to 4 students), you’ll receive extensive 1-1 attention from the instructor, ensuring personalized guidance and ample opportunity for skill development.

1. Refining Core Techniques

  • Confident, consistent centering
  • Throwing taller, more even forms
  • Greater control over wall thickness and shape
  • Throwing up to 1.5kg

2. Form Development

  • Functional repetitive forms like bigger bowls, cylinders, and plates
  • More complex shapes: lidded jars, jugs, vases
  • Throwing off the hump (optional)

3. Trimming & Finishing

  • Precision trimming and foot rings
  • Adding handles, spouts, and finishing details
  • Lip shaping and surface refinement

4. Glazing Fundamentals

  • Dipping, layering, and glaze selection
  • Wax resist and simple decoration techniques
  • (Slips and oxides offered if relevant to the group)

5. Creative Growth & Design Thinking

  • Planning and sketching forms
  • Assembling multi-part pieces
  • Encouragement to develop your personal aesthetic

6. Studio Practice

  • Clay reclaiming and material care
  • Responsible use of tools and shared equipment
  • Intro to kiln loading (demo only)
